Nyla Nora Barrier has been award the Leondias T. Williams Memorial Scholarship. Barrier is graduating from Hickory Ridge High School and plans to attend North Carolina Central University. She is the daughter of Daniel and Pauline Barrier of Harrisburg, and the granddaughter of Elnora P. Barrier and Mabel Kagbo.

Leondias T. Williams Memorial Scholarship Foundation Incorporated is an organization of Williams family members committed to constructive development of its youth and to public service, with a primary focus on the Black community and within Keathern Missionary Baptist Church. Leondias T. Williams Foundation, Inc. is a not-for-profit, organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through their established local scholarship program for deserving high school seniors.

The Scholars Program is held in May at Keathern Missionary Baptist Church located in Harrells. To date the scholarship committee has awarded over $7,500.
