Winners of the Sampson Arts Council Juried Arts Show have been announced.
Best in Show winner was Paula Fitzpatrick and first place winner was Alan Mintz, both residents of Sampson County.
According to Kara Donatelli, director of the Arts Council, 24 talented local and regional artists from eight counties participated in the 2016 Juried Show sponsored by Smithfield.
“We are honored to promote and display their beautiful work,” Donatelli said. “The counties represented include Sampson, Wayne, Wake, Johnston, New Hanover, Cumberland, Lee, and Harnett. We have 33 pieces on display in a variety of mediums such as oil, acrylic, collage, pen and ink, photography and watercolor.”
Sondra “Soni” Martin, professor of art at Fayetteville State University, served as the judge. Winners were awarded a total of $950 in cash prizes. Five of the eight winners live in Sampson County. The Juried Show runs through June 23 and the gallery hours are Tuesday-Friday 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., or by appointment. Please call the Sampson Arts Council at 910-596-2533 to schedule a viewing time.

Third Place — $50 – “Twins” by Amy Beshgetoorian, watercolor, Clayton
Honorable Mention — “NYC” by Mary Malpass, quill pen and ink, watercolor, Clinton
Honorable Mention — “Chicken Beach” by Peter Butler, Oil on paper, Clinton
Honorable Mention — “African Woman” by Kathy Flood, Watercolor, Fayetteville
Honorable Mention — “Harry the Herring” by Joan Carr, watercolor, Clinton
