The Sampson Community Theater is gearing up to present our early Summer blockbuster “Cats” in a few short weeks.

The set is almost finished, the tickets have been printed and are available for purchase now, costuming is not complete yet but is on schedule and the cast have learned a lot of their lines and lyrics and rehearsals are getting serious. There are about 48 cast members in this show and many of them will be acting in all eight shows, while some will only act in the first or second weekends.

The outstanding feature of the cast is their love of this show with its haunting music and they can hardly wait to get in their cat costumes. The energy is felt when they start rehearsing and it’s still going several hours later probably because most of the cast have had several years of “trodding the boards”(acting experience).

For example Yvonne Cano lives in Duplin County and has been doing musical theater for 40 years, most of it in Nashville, Tenn. She moved to North Carolina in 2014 and has been in three shows here, the most recent being Marmee in “Little Women”. Yvonne will be playing the major role of Grizabella the second weekend and lend her voice talents to the song “Memories”. Yvonne recently sang the national anthem for the opening ceremony of the Carolina Strawberry Festival in Wallace.

We appreciate the sponsorship of “Cats” by Sampson Salvage and Star Communications.

Angela Martin will once again have her very popular Summer Theater camp for kids and young adults Aug. 8-11. Contact info is below.

It is recommended that you get your tickets for “Cats” early because we expect some sellouts. Tickets are available at Inkspot, Matthews Gifts and at the box office during rehearsals.

Thoughts Until Next Week

God gave us memories that we may have roses in December.

We have all forgot more than we remember.

We can remember minutely and precisely only the things that never really happened to us.
