Thanks to the power of the Internet and SKYPE, Union Intermediate School students were able to visit with poet Kenn Nesbitt on Friday, May 13. Nesbitt is author of many picture and poetry books. Prior to his visit, students visited his website to learn about him.

Students had an amazing time learning about poetry, writing, and more. Nesbitt helped the students write their own original poetry. Nesbitt kept the students engaged with his funny poems, silly faces, and personal stories. He left time at the end of the session to answer student questions. One fifth grade student asked if he knew how to dab, and he told them no, but he was going to google it to find out how.

When asked about their favorite part, students responded “his evil laugh,” “when he taught ups to how to make poems,”, and “when he said he was going to search up the dab!”

This SKYPE was sponsored by the UIS Media Center.
