The University of Mount Olive recently hosted over 400 students and advisors who participated in the State FFA Career Development Events in Farm Business Management, Agricultural Sales, and Marketing Plans.

The Farm Business Management Career Development event included information assimilation, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills necessary to successfully manage a farm or pursue farm business management careers. The purpose of the Agricultural Sales Career Development event was to provide an individual with the basic skills to take advantage of the career opportunities offered in the sales field. The Marketing Plan Career Development Event was designed for FFA members to develop, practice and demonstrate skills needed in seeking employment in the agricultural industry.

“It is always an honor to host such an impressive group of young leaders in FFA as they compete at the state level in areas so pertinent to the agricultural industry,” stated Dr. Sandy Maddox, chair of the Division of Agriculture and director of the Lois G. Britt Agribusiness Center at UMO. “The teams and individuals that compete work very hard to be a part of this competition and the work that they and their advisors put in to this effort is obvious with every presentation.”

The University of Mount Olive is a private institution rooted in the liberal arts tradition with defining Christian values. The university, sponsored by the Convention of Original Free Will Baptists, has locations in Mount Olive, New Bern, Wilmington, Seymour Johnson Air Force Base, Research Triangle Park, Washington, Jacksonville, and in Smithfield at Johnston Community College.
