A 22-year-old Sampson County man was taken into custody Thursday afternoon, charged following a probe that began earlier in the day in Duplin County.
According to sheriff’s officials, Derrick Rasheen Caldwell of 183 Summerhill Road, Turkey, was charged with felony possession of a weapon of mass destruction, a felony.
His arrest came on the heels of a request for assistance from Duplin Sheriff’s officers who were investigating an incident where a Molotov cocktail was thrown at a vehicle.
The Duplin investigation, officers said, led them to someone in Sampson County.
Investigators from both agencies, along with Probation and Parole, went to the Summerhill Road residence where they found two of the Molotov cocktails.
Caldwell was placed under a $30,000 bond; he is expected to make his first appearance in Sampson District Court March 14.
