The Coat Closet Collection Month is under way. Last Friday, Nov. 1, was the first day of the 2013 Coat Closet Collection where we encouraged residents to stop by the Chamber office to drop off their new or gently used coats. I am excited to say that we surpassed our goal of collecting 100 coats last Friday. What a great way to begin the 2013 Coat Closet.
Thank you to the individuals, businesses, and sponsors that are supporting this year’s event. This annual project would not be possible without your support. This year, Commissioner Jefferson Strickland challenged us to collect and distribute 1,350 coats! I am confident we can reach this goal with your continued support for this project.
Each year, the generosity of individuals and the business community within Sampson County never ceases to amaze me as we come together to “give the gift of warmth each winter.” We are thankful for the community and business partnerships that have assisted us in fun ways to raise money to purchase coats ranging from Sweet Frog to Key Club competitions at each high school.
Wanda Coleman, owner and artistic director of The Dance Shoppe & TuTu’s Too is challenging her students to donate coats by giving incentives to win prizes such as: complimentary dance recital tickets, a month’s paid tuition, free t-shirt, free sweatshirt, and more. The more coats each student donates, the more opportunities they will have to enter for the prizes. What an awesome partnership to involve her students in “giving the gift of warmth this winter.” Thank you Wanda for challenging your students and giving them the opportunity to enter in for great prizes when they participate.
Also, if you need a gift for this holiday season, I encourage you to join us at Oasis on Nov. 23, from 5 until 9 p.m., as a portion of all sales will go towards the 2013 Coat Closet to purchase coats. Discover a wide range of Mary Kay Gifts this season. Thank you Amanda Faison for your partnership for this year’s coat closet project.
Lastly, another fun community partnership is with Ford of Clinton. For each vehicle sold within the month of November, $25 will go to purchase coats for this year’s coat closet project. Thank you Larry McPhail for your involvement and commitment to give back to the local community.
Thank you to the many sponsors that ensure this event is a success each year. We thank you for your constant support of the Chamber and the community. We are looking forward to another great coat project. For more information about the 2013 Chamber Coat Closet Project, give us a call at 910-592-6177 or visit www.clintonsampsonchamber.org.
