ROSEBORO — After school on Friday, students at Roseboro Elementary School will have the opportunity to dunk a teacher or two.

The school is hosting its annual Spring Fling from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the school, 180 Butler Island Road, Roseboro.

During the event, attendees can expect games, prizes a cake walk, horse and wagon rides and bouncy houses. A couple of educators also volunteered to sit in the dunking booth. Food will be served and barbecue sandwiches will be sold during the event. The school is currently pre-selling barbecue at $6 per pint.

Coordinator Jessica Eason, school guidance counselor, says she is looking forward to the event, hosted by the teachers at the school.

“It’s a really fun time for the kids,” Eason said. “For the past couple of years, it’s been a great turnout. The kids enjoy it and they have fun.”

For several years, Eason says she has watched the smiling faces of students during the event, who says the event is also enjoyed by other members and students in the area.

“It’s for the whole community,” she said. “Anybody is allowed to come.”

The third year event is a spin-off the school’s Fall Festival.

“We felt like we needed something in the spring time as well to end the school year,” Eason said.

According to Eason, funds from the event will be used to purchase materials for teachers.

“It helps us buy school supplies that we can’t fund through other funds,” Eason said about supplying needs for educators. “Our goal for a lot of things is to get stuff for the school that we don’t have.”

During the evening, Eason hopes residents from Roseboro and surrounding communities take advantage of the town’s Movie Night, scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in the Western District Park. “Big Hero 6” will be shown during the event hosted by the North Carolina Small Towns Economic Prosperity Program (NC STEP). It’s also free and open to the public.

Admission for the Roseboro Elementary Spring Fling is free and tickets for games are 50 cents each. For more information or to place barbecue orders, supporters may call 910-525-4538 or contact a teacher at Roseboro Elementary School.
