The Alive After Five Summer Concert Series will be in full force this month following the cancellation of the series’ kickoff in May, with an unprecedented three shows on the slate on three separate days later this month.
In a correspondence this weekend to Alive After Five sponsors and participants, AA5 organizer Ray Jordan made the announcement. Spare Change, which was scheduled to play the first show of the summer last month, has now been rescheduled to Tuesday, June 30.
“The Alive After Five Committee is delighted to announce that we have been able to reschedule the Spare Change concert that was canceled due to severe weather,” Jordan stated. “Our efforts to reschedule involved multiple groups and took a little longer than we anticipated.”
He said he appreciated the patience and understanding from sponsors, who number more than 100.
“The decision to cancel was a difficult decision for our committee,” he remarked.
New sponsor reception tickets and parking passes will be sent by mail for the June 30 event, which is now one of three shows in June.
“Everything else is on go as scheduled,” said Jordan.
That includes Jim Quick & Coastline on Thursday, June 18, and Orquesta K’Che the following night, Friday, June 19.
While last year’s Alive After Five extended into the fall with all-day concerts in conjunction with Clinton’s annual Court Square Street Fair, AA5 committee members decided to forego that fall offering in favor of a second June concert this year. The Sampson Arts Council, through a grant from the North Carolina Arts Council’s Grassroots Funding Program, will fund the additional concert.
Founded in 2010, Alive After Five (AA5) is a partnership between the Sampson Arts Council, the City of Clinton and Sampson County. Since its inception, the AA5 Committee — along with approximately 125 sponsors — have produced and presented 22 concerts free to all citizens and visitors to Sampson County.
The concerts, offered at no cost to the public, are held at the Clinton City Market on Lisbon Street, Clinton. All shows this year are scheduled to extend from 5:30 to 8:45 p.m.
Following the June offerings, the slate continues on Thursday, July 16, with The Carolina Breakers and Soul Play will entertain the masses on Thursday, Aug. 13. The closing concert of the season is set for Thursday, Sept. 17, featuring Band of Oz.
