SCC class keeping it clean

Sampson Community College’s Animal Waste Management class traveled to a local Prestage hog farm to learn more about the waste sampling and application process, which is vital in the animal science disciplines. Students were able to observe the “sludge boat,” which is used to measure the depth of the lagoon at various points to determine the percentage of sludge in the lagoon. Students also observed and discussed waste application methods and see equipment used in the process. SCC President, far right, joined the class for the field trip. Those interested in more information about SCC’s Animal Science program should call 910-592-8081 or visit sampsoncc.edu.
