In only two weeks you will be able to enjoy the next production at the Sampson Community Theatre where you will probably see many faces that will be the future of live theater in our county as 110 youngsters take to our big stage over three weekends in August. Every elementary school in the county is represented as are schools in Duplin, Wayne, Harnett and Cumberland counties. Several home schools are represented also, all in an effort to give as many children as possible the opportunity to perform for our audiences, their families and friends. There are at least 15 families with two or more members of one of the three casts.

“The Little Mermaid, Jr.” is being proudly sponsored by sweetFrog (the home of premium frozen yogurt).

Tickets may be purchased in advance at Matthews Gifts and at Inkspot. It would behoove you to purchase your tickets in advance since many of the shows will be sold out.

The large number of children who auditioned and got a part have been split into three casts; there will now be a total of nine shows presented over three weekends. One cast named “Seashells” will perform on Aug. 8, 9 and 10. Another cast named “Sunshine” will perform on Aug. 15, 16 and 17. The remaining cast named “Salt Water” will perform on Aug. 22, 23 and 24. You may find out the names of the actors in each cast by visiting our website at www.sampsoncommunitytheatre.org

The theater board has met and now have a list of shows to be considered for our 2015 season. They will be able, over the next month, to research the shows that will be available and try to come up with a mixture of musicals, comedies and dramas that will satisfy our audiences. If there is a special show you would like to see on our stage, you are requested to call us at 592-8653, leave us a message to include the play or plays you would like to see and your suggestions will be considered.

The 9th Annual SCT Theatre Camp will be held Aug. 4-7. This camp is for any child ages 4-15 and will be a fun and entertaining way to learn about theatre and performance. Not only will the campers be learning new theatre terms, the camp will end with a live free performance for the campers friends and families. For more information about the camp please contact Angela Martin at: alm2sing@yahoo.com

Our website is available at: www.sampsoncommunitytheatre.org and we are on Facebook but if you visit us there, we ask that you “like” us while there.

Thoughts until next week

• To be absolutely certain about something, one must know everything or nothing about it.

• “If you can’t explain it to a six year old, you don’t understand it yourself.” …….Albert Einstein

• Certain things catch your eye, but pursue only those that capture the heart.
