Torres

A Roseboro man has been charged in connection with a chase that began following a call of shots fired on Peavine Road Sunday night and ended with two suspects fleeing into the woods, one of them later caught.

Alex Torres, 22, of 665 JC Lane, Roseboro, has now been charged with fleeing to elude arrest with motor vehicle, simple assault, resisting public officer, misdemeanor larceny, failure to heed light and siren, no operator’s license and reckless driving to endanger.

According to Sheriff’s Capt. Eric Pope, deputies were dispatched at 7:30 p.m. Sunday to a call of shots fired from a vehicle on North Peavine Road, Clinton. After talking with residents at an address on the 1800 block of Peavine Road, deputies were leaving the area when they noticed a Mazda SUV matching the description of the suspect vehicle.

“They turned around on it and the vehicle accelerated,” Pope said.

The chase did not extend far, with a subject later identified as Torres and a female subject exiting the vehicle on Beverly Lane just off North Peavine Road, and running into nearby woods. Utilizing the assistance of the Clinton Police Department’s K-9 unit, sheriff’s authorities took Torres into custody a short time later in the wood line behind Beverly Lane but were unable to apprehend the female, Pope said.

No suspect description was immediately available, but the sheriff’s captain said the matter is still being investigated.

Torres was booked shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday and placed in the Sampson County Detention Center under $18,500 secured.
