A Roseboro man who fled from sheriff’s deputies responding to a possible impaired motorist is now facing much more than a DWI charge.

Jonathan Colanges Boykin, 31, of 2072 Claudes Drag Road, Roseboro, was charged with driving while impaired, speeding, resisting public officer, misdemeanor fleeing to elude, simple possession of marijuana and no operator’s license, no registration and no insurance.

According to Sheriff’s Lt. Marcus Smith, deputies received information about a possible impaired driver entering Garland on N.C. 411.

At around 12:45 a.m. Friday, a deputy assigned to work the town of Garland located the suspect entering the city limits on N.C. 411 and attempted to stop the motorist for suspicion of impaired driving, Smith said.

“Once the deputy activated their lights and siren, the subject failed to yield and led the deputy on a short vehicle pursuit before fleeing on foot,” Smith said.

After a short foot chase in the area of West Second Street near Brown Avenue in Garland, deputies located and arrested the suspect. One-tenth of an ounce of marijuana seized during Boykin’s arrest, reports state.

He was placed in the Sampson County Detention Center under $8,000 secured bond.
