One Garland man is in custody and another still on the loose after a home invasion in the southern Sampson County town early Friday morning.

Josh Montoya, 19, of 633 West 2nd Ave., was jailed late Friday night and charged with a laundry list of felonies including attempted murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, first degree burglary, first degree kidnapping and discharging a firearm.

His bond was not immediately available but he remained in the Sampson County Detention Center Saturday.

Officers are still searching for a second man, identified as Dustin Carr, an 18-year-old black male who’s address is listed as 626 West 2nd Ave. Sheriff officials said Carr should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call authorities at 910-592-4141.

An all-day probe into the early morning home invasion led officers to Montoya, said Sheriff’s Lt. Marcus Smith, contacted Friday night.

“They have been at the Garland residence all day processing evidence and looking into this,” the lieutenant said.

The home invasion occurred around 5:30 a.m. when two masked men forced their way into a North Powell Street residence in Garland. Smith said after the two men made entry into the home, they fired shots from a firearm, striking one of the victims, who was not identified.

The masked men then proceeded to rob the victims of the belongings before fleeing the residence and the area on foot.

Smith said the victim who had been shot received minor, non-life threatening injuries.

Investigators were called to the scene shortly after the incident occurred, and an all-day probe began, with officers conducting interviews and canvassing the neighborhood for information. The intensive work, he said, led officers to Montoya and the identity of Carr.

Montoya was taken into custody late in the afternoon; and officers continue to search for Carr.
