Investigators with the Clinton Police Department’s Neighborhood Improvement Team are looking for suspects in a Thursday night armed robbery at the Sampson Center, in which a man was assaulted and robbed.

According to reports, Michael Watts, 20, was held at gunpoint at 808 Barden St. The armed robbery was reported at 8:21 p.m. Thursday. According to police reports, $80 in cash and an FM radio transmitter were stolen.

“The victim had arranged to meet a friend at Barden Street Gym and he met with him and another subject,” Clinton Police Chief Jay Tilley said. “The second subject displayed a handgun, assaulted Watts and took his money. Both of them then fled.”

Watts suffered lacerations to his head. He was transported to Sampson Regional Medical Center, where he was treated for his injuries and released. Tilley said NIT investigators are on the case.

“They are following up and attempting to locate the friend,” the police chief said.
