A 22-year-old Bonnetsville Road man remains behind bars this morning under a $750,000 bond after having been jailed Wednesday on a laundry list of assault-related charges.
Erick Damon Phillips, 6184 Bonnetsville Road, Clinton, is facing felony charges of first degree sexual assault and assault with a deadly weapon and the misdemeanor offenses of simple assault and communicating threats.
His arrest comes on the heels of a domestic-related incident that began at an auto parts store in Roseboro and ended after the 20-year-old victim called 911.
According to Sheriff’s Cpl. Marcus Smith, the victim went to pick Phillips up at a Roseboro Auto Parts store Wednesday afternoon, but when she arrived the suspect was angry that she was late and struck the woman in the face.
Smith said the victim was able to get away and drove back toward Clinton. The suspect got into another vehicle and pursued her.
But the victim was able to call E911 and met officers in the parking lot of Sampson Community College where she reported the incident.
“Through further investigation, we learned that the suspect had previously sexually assaulted the victim and, at one point, had assaulted her with a deadly weapon,” Smith said.
Officers located Phillips later in the evening, around 8 p.m. on Willard Street and took him into custody.
He was placed under the $750,000 bond and jailed.
He is expected to make his first appearance in Sampson County District Court on those charges Sept. 17.
