A 20-year-old Sampson County man has become the third person charged in a May 5 break-in on Haynes Stretch Road, near Roseboro.

Sean Mathew Bradshaw of 334 Belvior School Road was taken into custody around 3 p.m. Tuesday and charged with burglary, larceny of property/receiving stolen goods, and possession of a stolen firearm, all felonies.

According to Cpl. Marcus Smith with the Sampson Sheriff’s Department, an investigation was initiated after a citizen discovered a gun safe in a ditch and called deputies earlier in the summer.

Officers retrieved the gun safe, discovered that it had been damaged but that was nothing inside and eventually tracked down the owner who told them his home had been broken into on May 6.

Smith said one of the guns stolen from the safe was pawned, and officers were able to track it, which led to the eventual arrest of Cathy Martin, 42 of Stedman on May 24 and David Mesimer, 23, of Autryville on May 9.

Martin was charged with possession of stolen property; Mesimer was charged with burglary, larceny of a firearm and possession of a stolen firearm.

That same investigation, Smith said, led to Tuesday’s arrest of Bradshaw.

The Clinton man remained behind bars Wednesday afternoon under a $25,000 secured bond. His is expected to make his first appearance in Sampson District Court Friday.
