A 28-year-old Sampson County man remained jailed late Wednesday afternoon, six days after he was charged with two felonies related to a domestic situation that occurred late last week.
Daniel Lynn Darden, of 2724 Wyre Branch Road, was charged with domestic assault by strangulation and domestic assault with serious bodily injury and placed in the Sampson County Detention Center, first without privilege of bond, as is the case with all domestic assaults. He was later given a $25,000 bond.
Officers made the arrest when they were following up on a previous non-domestic-related call for service Friday morning. At that time, Cpl. Marcus Smith said, officers learned that the 32-year-old victim was at Chapel Hill.
“Further investigation revealed that Daniel Darden had reportedly strangled the victim the night before and as a result she had to go to Chapel Hill for serious injuries to her neck,” Smith said.
The victim was treated for her injuries at UNC Hospitals and was later released.
Smith said her current medical status was not known.
Darden is scheduled to make his first appearance in Sampson District Court Sept. 27.
