Newton Grove police are currently searching for a man believed responsible for the Wednesday morning robbery at the BB&T.

No one was injured in the incident and police said no weapon was used in what they are now calling a strong arm robbery.

Officers are searching for a black male, believed to be in his 20s, who walked into the bank branch around 9:15 a.m., handed a teller a note demanding money and, when he got it, fled the scene on foot headed toward the medical clinic.

“The call came in to the 911 dispatch at 9:22 a.m. this morning,” said Newton Grove Police Sgt. Norbert Edwards Wednesday. “We consider this a strong-armed robbery,” the officer added.

Newton Grove Mayor Gerald Darden said that the suspect requested money from all three tellers but only managed to take money from one. Sources say the tellers were told not to set the alarm.

The lone suspect fled on foot, but Edwards said it was not known at this time whether he had a waiting vehicle in the vicinity or any accomplices.

The investigation is ongoing. Edwards said it is not believed at this time that the incident at BB&T Wednesday is connected to an October robbery at the BP station.

If anyone has any further information about this bank robbery, please contact Edwards at the Newton Grove Police Department at 910-594-0829.
