A 20-year-old Newton Grove man remains in the Sampson County Detention Center this morning, charged with first degree sex offense involving a child.
Christopher Genaro Caceres of 74 Lopez Lane, Faison, was charged by Newton Grove police just after 5 p.m. Tuesday. A warrant for his arrest was taken out Sunday night and that warrant was served Tuesday after it was learned that he was at the Sampson County Department of Social Services.
The arrest report was filed Wednesday.
According to Newton Grove Sgt. Norbert Edwards, the incident occurred Sunday night and was reported by someone at the residence where the alleged crime is said to have taken place.
The victim, Edwards said, is a 7-year-old girl. Because of the sensitive nature of the case and the fact that it involves a juvenile, no further details were provided.
Caceres was jailed under a $500,000 secured bond and is scheduled to make his first appearance in Sampson District Court Dec. 6.
According to General Statue GS14-27.4A S.L.2008-117, anyone convicted of sex offense with a child must be sentenced to an active punishment of at least 300 months. That sentence can change based on the criminal history of the person convicted.
