A Silver Alert for a 51-year-old Sampson County was cancelled late Wednesday afternoon when the man returned home unharmed.
Authorities continued to look for Donnie Neal Stewart throughout the day Wednesday after he was reported missing and the alert went out from the N.C. Center for Missing Persons.
Sampson Sheriff’s Capt. Eric Pope said Stewart, who at one time was believed to have been heading to Black Mountain, returned home on his home.
Authorities noted that he was safe and unharmed.
Notice of his return was given just after 5 p.m.
The alert for Stewart first went out around 9 a.m. Wednesday. The N.C. Center for Missing Persons was urging citizens to be on the lookout for the 51-year-old, who was believed to be suffering from dementia or some other cognitive impairment.
He was last seen at 425 Bullard Pit Circle in Autryville, and authorities said earlier Wednesday that he might be headed to the western part of North Carolina.
