A 50-year-old Clinton man remained behind bars Monday afternoon charged in connection with the break-in of a vehicle on Lisbon Street.
According to Clinton Police reports, Roderick Harris, of 187 Anniebell Lane, Clinton, was taken into custody around 10:30 a.m., and charged with one felony count of breaking, entering and larceny from an auto and one misdemeanor count of larceny.
Harris was picked up after an officer, responding to the larceny call, spotted a man fitting the description of the person suspected in the crime near Cliff’s Fast Stop.
He is charged with breaking the passenger side window of a Chrysler 300 with a cement pot and stealing cash that was inside. In all, less than $6 was reported taken. Damage to the vehicle, however, was much more, estimated at $500.
The car was parked in front of the Lisbon Street residence when the crime occurred, and the victim told officers she heard glass break outside, ran downstairs to see what was happening and spotted a man inside the vehicle. The man, she said, then fled, heading down Lisbon Street toward Morrisey Boulevard.
Harris was taken into custody and placed in the Sampson County Detention Center under a $5,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to make his first appearance in District Court March 14.
