A 55-year-old woman was killed Sunday night and three others injured following a two-vehicle collision on Cartertown Road, four miles south of Clinton.
According to N.C. Highway Patrol Sgt. Bryan Smith, Carmen Salvador of 25 Futrell Pope Lane, Clinton died when her 1994 Nissan van, traveling south on Cartertown Road, crossed the center line into the northbound path of an oncoming vehicle, driven by Jennifer Torres, 29, of 1414 Cartertown Road, Clinton.
The accident happened around 8:05 p.m. on Cartertown Road near Pearson Road
Two juveniles in Salvador’s vehicle were injured in the accident, along with Torres. All three were taken to Sampson Regional Medical Center where they were treated for what Smith called “non-life threatening injuries” and later released.
This marks the second fatality of 2014, and the second deadly accident in March.
The first, a one vehicle accident, occurred on March 3 on Autry Mill Road (State Road 1446) near Wrench Road when William Norris, 70, of 599 Parnell Road, Godwin, was killed.
In that accident, Smith said, Norris was traveling south on Autry Mill Road, some four miles east of Godwin, when he ran off the road to the right and struck a tree, with the vehicle overturning.
No one else was involved in that accident.
