Thirty-three students from the Performing Arts School from both Cumberland and Sampson counties recently performed in a benefit concert organized by the studio at the Fayetteville Academy.
All proceeds and donations from this event were given to the Second Harvest Food Bank and Backpack Buddies. This the fifth year that the studio, owned by Suzi Faircloth Matthews, has organized a benefit concert to help the hungry.
“I feel that t is my responsibility as a business owner, to help my community,” stated Matthews. ” Young people should learn early to use their talents to help others fortunate. My studio takes great pride in training young people to do just this. The students and parents really support this project each year because projects like this make us all better people.”
The Second Harvest Food Bank, located in Fayetteville, serves victims of storms. It supplies individuals with food, toiletries and basic necessities. The Backpack Buddies program is run by local churches in Sampson County. These volunteers supply more than 200 children a week with food for the weekend when there is a shortage at home.
The Performing Arts School is located in downtown Clinton. The studio offers classes in dance, baton, clogging, acrobatics, hip-hop, guitar and musical theater for students ages two and up.
