On Saturday, Aug. 30, two of the area’s most popular Christian vocal groups will come together at the Coats Community Church in Coats for an exciting musical worship service to benefit a very worthy cause. Butler Hughes & Hayes and Mercy’s Cross will be featured during this special evening, beginning at 6:30 p.m., to benefit the Anna Ruth Christian Retreat.
The Anna Ruth Christian Retreat, located near Scotland Neck, is operated by Spivey’s Corner native Wayne Warren and his wife Jacquolyn. The Retreat provides a place for pastors, evangelists, missionaries and various church groups to stay, free of charge, and enjoy a time of relaxation and rejuvenation. Adjacent to the Scotfield Country Club, the Retreat overlooks a 20-acre pond and golf course and offers visitors the opportunity to enjoy fishing, hunting and simply watching wildlife in its natural habitat. “We provide a haven of rest where Godly men and women can get away from the normal busyness of life and be revived, refreshed and reconnect with the Lord,” Warren shares.
Dr Jim Cochran, pastor of Coats Community Church, is just one of the hundreds of individuals who has enjoyed the personal experience of the Retreat. “The Anna Ruth Christian Retreat is very dear to my heart,” Dr Cochran explains. “Wayne and Jackie Warren have a unique ministry. God has blessed this wonderful couple with the opportunity to minister to pastors, evangelists and other Christian workers. Refreshing renewal awaits all who visit the Anna Ruth Christian Retreat, and we are delighted to support this ministry and host the 5th Annual Anna Ruth Christian Retreat Gospel Sing, featuring two groups who are our great friends, Butler, Hughes and Hayes, as well as Mercy’s Cross.”
Butler, Hughes & Hayes first began singing together in 2006, as a common love for music and ministry united three friends. A fourth vocalist recently joined the threesome, delivering a smooth, rich, bass vocal, that has allowed the popular trio to present four-part harmony that audiences embrace night after night.
Much like BHH, the ministry of Mercy’s Cross came to life several years ago when three friends decided to sing a “special” for their home church congregation at Piney Grove Chapel Baptist Church in Angier. This special song eventually led to the formation of the group, as God began to open doors to allow the three the opportunity to expand their musical talents and travel to area churches.
Coats Community Church is located at 275 North McKinley St. in Coats. Complete information about the 5th Annual Anna Ruth Christian Retreat Gospel Sing may be obtained by calling 910-897-2881. No admission will be charged; however, a love offering will be received with all proceeds going to Anna Ruth Christian Retreat. Make plans to join Butler, Hughes & Hayes and Mercy’s Cross on Saturday, Aug. 30 at 6:30 p.m. for a special night of musical worship.
