The North Carolina Horse Council has established Regional Caucuses throughout the state so that they can truly represent horse owners’ interests.

The caucuses are face to face meetings of members of the equine community or members of the North Carolina Horse Council for the purpose of discussing and promoting the affairs of the equine industry. The basic goal is to protect and enhance the North Carolina Equine Industry and to further the understanding and acceptance of equine activities throughout the state. The caucuses are also an important tool to support the interests of North Carolina’s many equine enthusiasts, as well as provide a voice for equine issues as part of the NCHC.

The local caucus will be held Thursday, March 24, at the Sampson County Extension Livestock Facility, beginning at 7 p.m.

Specifically, the purpose of the NCHC Regional Equine Caucus is:

• To preserve and promote the traditional rights of North Carolina citizens to pursue their respective equine interests.

• To protect the investment of equine enthusiasts by pursuing favorable laws policies and regulations that impact the industry including but not limited to land use, preservation of equine farms, taxation issues and environmental issues which affect the industry

• To support efforts of like- minded agricultural, educational and economic development groups to further the interests of the equine industry

• To recognize the importance of the equine industries activities to our state’s economy and to build an organization structure within the NCHC to address equine issue and recommendations.

Today there are four established caucuses but more are being added to meet the needs of the state. This is but one way that the NC Horse Council is trying to get people involved and truly represent all equine owners across the state and we invite all persons who are interested to attend.
