Lakewood soccer falls to rival James Kenan on Monday, with a final score of 1-3.
Both teams were constantly challenging each other throughout the game, and Lakewood scored the first goal with just 2 minutes left in the first period. Leopard Jonathan Gonzalez found the back of the net for Lakewood.
The Tigers made both their goals in the second half and the Leopards were unable to answer back.
Lakewood head coach Jay Faircloth was puzzled as to what happened to his team in the second period.
“I thought we moved the ball good during the first half, but in the second half I’m not really sure what happened. We just disappeared on the field. It seemed like our injured players played harder than our healthy players. I just don’t understand that,” a bemused Coach Faircloth stated.
“We did play hard, and these boys where all very aggressive. I’ve never heard so many whistles in one game. It was just all out war on the field. I’m a bit disappointed because these boys just deserve more than what they are getting,” he added.
Lakewood’s record falls to 0-3 in the conference and they will travel to Neuse Charter on Wednesday. Game time is 5 p.m.
