Harrells Christian JV slipped past Arendell Parrott Academy on the soccer field Wednesday with a score of 2-1.

Crusader head coach Will Jones said his team got off to a flat start, but started to wake up about halfway through the first half when they took the lead 1-0 into halftime.

“We got a throw in close to PA’s goal and Chris Cannady threw it in across the box to Spencer Cooke who headed it in for a beautiful goal,” Coach Jones explained.

The Crusaders took a lot of good shots, but Parrott’s keeper made some outstanding saves, according to Jones.

Midway the second half, APA scored on a breakaway to tie the score. “From then on it became a real battle,” Jones stated.

With just 60 seconds showing on the clock, the Crusaders got a corner kick and Coach Jones explained the winning goal this way: “Cole Nye takes the corner puts it back post on Spencer Cooke’s head for his second goal of the game, putting us ahead with 35 seconds left in the half and sealing the game off for our first win of the season.”

Individual shots on goal by the Crusaders were from (1st/2nd) Cole Nye - 6/2; Chris Cannady - 6/4; Spencer Cooke - 4/2; Stancil Bowles - 1/2; Davis Rhodes - 0/1; Daniel Buckner - 0/1.

Parrott had 3 shots in the first half and 4 in the second.

Brenden Giles had 1 save in the first half and 8 saves in the second.

HCA will host Coastal Christian on Monday at 4 p.m.
