Dark Horses slip past Eagles, 21-20

The Clinton Dark Horse varsity football team slipped past the visiting East Bladen Eagles 21-20 on Friday night.
East Bladen scored first, 6-0 with ten minutes left in the first quarter. Playing hard, Clinton kept their defenses up, but it wasn’t enough to stop the Eagles from crossing the goal line with 3:04 left in the first quarter. A 2 point conversion would push the score to 14-0.
With only 1:28 left in the first half, the Dark Horses managed to cross the goal line. Going into halftime the score was 7-14.
Clinton managed to tie it up with just five minutes left in the third quarter, 14-all, but the Eagles weren’t done.
As the clock counted down from 35 seconds, East Bladen scored, bumping the score up to 14-20 as the third quarter came to an end.
Defenses held on both sides of the field until there was 1 minute left on the clock. The Dark Horses crossed into the end zone. The extra point kick was good and Clinton slipped past the Eagles 21-20.
“I thought we played better during the second half. We made a huge stop in the fourth quarter, it was a super effort made by everyone.” stated defense coach Mark Fields.
Leading the rushing for the Horses was Silas Herring with 13 carries for 113 yards. Julian Wilkins had 14 carries for 79 yards, and Kris Royal had 10 carries for 54 yards.
Clinton quarterback Jonathan Wright passed 5 for 8 attempts for 99 yards with 1 touchdown. On the receiving end, Herring had 2 catches for 50 yards. Kris Royal had 1 catch for 22 yards, and Kevin West had 1 catch for 18 yards.
On defense, Kenneth Ford had 10 tackles, Kris Royal had 9 tackles, Khari Fryar had 7 tackles, Wade Sumner had 6 tackles, and T.J. Boone had 6 tackles.
Clinton’s next game will be against the undefeated Midway Raiders at Midway next Friday at 7 p.m.
