The Crusader varsity cruised by Wake Christian on Friday, 54- 14, in Harrells.

Harrells Christian Academy got a relatively slow start, scoring only one touchdown in the first quarter. They would go on to score 3 TDs in each of the next two quarters, and then back off in the fourth quarter.

Quarterback O.H. Rouse sneaked into the end zone about 10 minutes into the game and Kelly Nelms pulled in the 2 point conversion to move to score ot 8-0.

This was just a warm-up for the 6 touchdowns to come.

Early in the second quarter, Sammy Dixon raced 42 yards to put 8 more points on the board after a 2 point conversion by Marcus Scarborough. The Dixon-Scarborough combindation scored again about 10 minutes later to put the score at 24-0.

To mix it up a bit, Rouse completed a 35 yarder to Nelms for the next TD and Nelms ran in the 2 point conversion. WCA managed to sneak across the goal line once in the second quarter, but the PAT was no good.

At intermission, the score was 32-6.

Dixon raced 61 yards for the first second half TD to be followed by a 2 point conversion by Kelly Channing. With just enough time for Dixon to catch his breath, he sprinted another 52 yards and then ran in the 2 point conversion for another 8 on the scoreboard.

The final touchdown for the Crusaders came when Marcus Scarborough bulldozed through the line from 5 yards out. The PAT failed.

WCA’s TD and 2 point conversion was the only score in the fourth quarter.

Leading all rushers was Dixon with 288 yards on 17 carries. Helping him out was Scarborough with 7 for 38; Kelly, 10 for 77; Rouse with 3 for 5; Nelms with 8 for 37; and Will Huff, 4 for 11.

Rouse attempted 3 passes with 1 completion and it was for a 35 yard TD to Nelms.

On defense, Crusader Frederick Strickland had 6 tackles; Nathan Casteen, Justin Smith, and Channing 3 tackles each; Zack Carlton, Zach Batts, Nelms, Dixon, and Ben Parker each had 2 tackles.

The Crusaders will travel to North Raleigh Christian Academy next Friday.
