Lakewood volleyball faced North Duplin on Monday where both teams were fighting for a chance to place in the new 1A Carolina Conference tournament.
The Leopards easily took 3rd place by winning all three sets with scores of 25-16; 25-17; 25-13.
Lakewood head coach Sheila Davidson was elated with the win.
“Tonight was the first time we made a line up like that, and we made some changes. I feel like with this we did fairly well, but we need to improve in those rotations. I’m excited. We just need to regroup and go into our game against Rosewood tomorrow,” Coach Davidson explained.
Kiara Rich came away with 8 kill shots, 1 ace, 1 bock, and 7 digs; Rashyda Parker played just as tough, with 10 kills, 4 aces, 4 blocks, and 10 digs; Aleah Parker, 4 kills; 2 blocks, 1 dig; Asia Eason, 3 kills, 1 block; Anna Heinz, 3 aces, 1 block, 30 digs, and 20 assists; Homecoming queen Emily Lewis, 1 ace, 6 digs; Daja King with, 1 kill, 5 digs; and Alana Jackson with 8 digs and 3 assists.
Stats for the Rebels showed Chesney Brown with 1 ace, 5 kill shots, 4 blocks, and 1 dig; Rylee Pate, 1 ace, 3 digs; Mary Barwick, 2 aces, 2 kills, 3 digs; Maddie Swinson, 1 ace; Jennifer Barrow, 1 kill; Elizabeth Thornton, 3 digs, Nichole Rivenbark, 1 dig; and Shaily McCarty, 1 block.
North Duplin ended the season at 4-10 in the conference and 4-12 overall.
The tournament is at Hobbton this year with No. 3 Lakewood going up against No. 2 Rosewood on Tuesday at 5 p.m. and No. 1 Princeton faces No. 4 Spring Creek at 7 p.m.
The championship game is set for 7 p.m. on Wednesday in the Wildcat gym.
