Lakewood’s volleyball team battled Rosewood to keep playing in the 1A Carolina Conference tournament held at Hobbton this year. The Leopards lost in 3 sets, with final scores of, 25-23; 25-16;25-15.
Rosewood head coach, Jennifer Cochran, commented about the win: “ I felt like it was an okay win. It seemed like we struggled a little bit at the beginning and we couldn’t really get into a rhythm. We were able to switch it up a bit, so that everyone had a part in helping with the win.”
Both teams played like every play was the last one. They were both in it to win it, and desperately tried to keep the ball in play. Lakewood never put their heads down throughout all 3 sets and kept Rosewood on their toes.
“This game was very fun to watch, these two teams competitively going at it. The game was a lot closer than what the scores show in the last two sets. It was very tight the whole game, and at a certain point in the game, Rosewood would get 4 or 5 points ahead of us. It was a lot of fun watching the girls play. We were aggressive, we played hard, but we where just inconsistent,” commented Lakewood’s head coach, Sheila Davidson.
Leading the attack for the Leopards was Rashyda Parker, with 15 kills, 1 ace, and 8 digs; Anna Heinz with 3 kills, 1 ace, 30 digs; Aleah Parker, 9 kills, 7 blocks; Kiara Rich, 4 kills, 1 ace, 11 digs, 3 assist; Alana Jackson, 13 digs, 2 assist; Emily Lewis, 7 digs, 25 assists; and Daja King with 2 kills.
This is not the end of Lakewood’s season. They will go up against Spring Creek tomorrow (Wednesday) at 5 p.m. in the Wildcat gym for third place in the Carolina Conference.
The championship game will be played at 7 p.m. between No. 2 Rosewood and No. 1 Princeton.
