Raiders lose to Red Devils in 1st round

The Midway Raiders’ hopes for an extended season were dashed by Graham High School with a 6-3 loss in the first round of the playoffs Wednesday.
Midway head coach Alan McLamb said the Red Devils team was very good and had the Raiders down 4-0 at halftime.
“I talked with their coach after the game and he said that was probably the best first half they had played all year,” McLamb said.
After making a few adjustments at the half, the Raiders fought back, and senior Fastino Espino went to work on the back of the net, scoring all 3 of Midway’s goals.
“This was his last run and he stepped up and really attacked the back of the net,” the Raider coach said proudly.
Assists on those three goals were provided by Juan Ortez, Justin Stephenson and Alex Boggs.
“With all the injuries and adversity this team dealt with this season, I think they really stepped up and performed even better than I thought they could sometimes,” declared McLamb. “This team really worked hard to adjust and perform and keep us competitive all year. I’m proud to be a part of this team.”
The Raiders finished the season at 9-7-2. The Red Devils were ranked 10th and went into the playoffs with a 12-2-2 record.
