For the second time in Dark Horse history, the Clinton boys’ soccer team heads into the fourth round of the 2A state playoffs.

They won a decisive victory over the Northeastern Eagles, shutting them out 3-0.

Clinton head coach Brad Spell was thrilled with the win and optimistic on their 4th round chances Saturday.

“I was really pleased with tonight’s win. We’re going to the 4th round of the playoffs, which is the second time in school history. We did what we needed to do to win the game, but I think we need to do a little bit better job in communication. We need to play with the ball and take it to the wings a little bit more, because sometimes we were stagnant tonight. I don’t know if that had to do with nerves or what, but I think we could have played a little bit smarter. I’m happy and I know that the guys are excited. Now its just on to the next game.”

With 5 minutes into the game, Clinton battled down the field and Eric Bradshaw sent the ball past the goalie and into the goal for the first Dark Horse score.

It wasn’t until early in the second half that Luis Aguilar ran with the ball and found the back of the net.

Bradshaw scored goal 3 with 65 minutes off the clock.

Clinton’s record is now 21-3- 2 overall. They will meet the No. 7 Carrboro Jaguars, located near Chapel Hill, at 6 p.m. on Saturday at Darkness Stadium. The Jaguars are 16-5-2.
