The Hobbton Middle Wildcats and the Midway Middle Raiders clashed today and each came away with a win. The Midway girls got a 57-6 win over the Wildcats; while the Wildcat boys beat up on Midway 47-27.

The Raider girls out-scored the Wildcats 23-2 in the first quarter and never looked back. Raider coach Selena Joseph said, “I though both teams did well. My girls need to work on their fouls and not reaching in. I think our defense and the press we played in the first half really worked on them.”

For the Lady Raiders, Alex Canady led the scoring with 15 points. Madeline Royal was close behind with 14 points and 8 rebounds. Hannah Lucas chipped in 7 and Blythe Best had 6. Leah Williams, J.J. Sankey, and Rachel Hodges each had 4 points. Rounding out the scoring were Logan Baggett with 2 points and Alyssa Wrench with 1.

The Wildcat boys jumped out to a 10-6 lead in the first quarter and held an 18-8 lead at the break. Midway cut the lead down some in the third; however, the Wildcats turned up the heat and pulled away again.

Wildcat coach Jackson Temple said, “I thought the defense won the game for tonight. They hustled on defense. Adversity struck our team for first time tonight. But the bench responded well. We got into some foul trouble and the bench came in and pulled us out. I was really impressed with them coming out and holding the lead like they did.”

Scoring for the Wildcats were Omar Farrior with 16 points and 7 steals. Jonathan Wright had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Jason Scrivenor had 8 points and 6 steals. Josh Blue had 6 points and 6 steals. Jevon Colbert rounded out the scoring with 3 pints. The Wildcats had a total of 21 steals.
