The Lady Leopards strongly defended their home court against the Union Spartans on Tuesday, racing to an easy 56-18 victory.

Lakewood hit it off from the beginig, out-scoring the Spartans 20 to 4 at halftime.

For the Leopards, Briana Evans had a game high 12 points; with Justina Henry and Chanel McCellon close behind with 10 points each. Kiara Rich scored 9 points; Rashyda Parker had 6 points; Jada Moore, 6 points; Kiara Henry with 4 points; and Daja Owens with 2 points.

Lakewood head coach Lofton Kerr was happy to get the win, but thought his team could have played even better.

“It’s a win, and it’s always good to have a win. I thought we executed better than the first time we played them. We still need to work on our lay-ups. It’s a win and that’s good,” he added.

For the Spartans, Destiny Robinson had 6 points; Lauren Preddy, 6 points; Brianna Blackmore, 2 points; and Shanas Caldwell with 1 point.

Union head coach Bryant Register said, “First off I want to congratulate Coach Kerr tonight. He led his team to a great win. Right now we are a work in progress, and we just have to continue to work at it so we can get better day in and day out. Overall we need to have more enthusiasm, and a bit more effort than what we showed tonight. I know these girls are capable of doing it, and we are going to get there.”
