Lakewood’s girls basketball team traveled to Midway to take on the Lady Raiders Friday evening.
Rashyda Parker led the Lady Leopards with 13 points, as they defeated Midway, 50-32.
Amber Poole had 9 points and 6 rebounds and Briana Butler pulled down 13 rebounds in a losing effort for Midway.
Midway played well in the first quarter, leading 10-9, but then scored just 8 points in the next 2 quarters combined. The Lakewood pressure forced many Lady Raider turnovers.
“It was tough for us to guard their size. They killed us on the glass, and we went cold. Free throw shooting and shooting from the field was rough tonight, so that’s something we’ll continue to work on,” said Jennifer Naylor, head coach of Midway.
“Rebounding was a point of emphasis” said Lofton Kerr, Lakewood’s head coach. “Sometimes I feel like we get too content with the way we’re playing, so we need to work on playing harder sometimes, but it’s always a good win when you come to Midway and get it,” finished Kerr.
The teams each play twice next week before heading home for Christmas break. Lakewood will host Spring Creek on Tuesday and travel to North Duplin on Thursday. The Raiders will host East Bladen on Tuesday and travel to Pender on Thursday.
