The Lady Spartans battled the Wildcats on the UHS basketball court Friday night. The final outcome was a Union victory, 51-33.

Although slow to start in the first quarter with a score of 9-6, things heated up quickly in the second. At halftime, the Spartans had jumped out with a lead of 24-15. Coming out fired up, Union added another 17 points to the scoreboard in the third. The Wildcats battled hard, adding 14 points of their own in the third. However, it was Union who closed it out, allowing only 4 points from Hobbton in the fourth, while adding 10 more of their own.

Leading Union’s scoring was Eva Long with 19 points; Destiny Robinson with 10 points; Tanaziah Chestnutt with 7 points; Faith McKoy with 6 points; Mia Bronson with 5 points; Shiquilla Walker with 4 points.

Bryant Register, Union’s head coach, said, “Overall this was a great game for both teams. Our girls played hard, and I can’t tell you how proud I am of them for their effort and intensity. This was a team win, and a lot of the girls really stepped up and made plays when they had to.”

The Wildcat coach declined to comment.

Union will host West Bladen in their first conference game Tuesday as Hobbton travels to Rosewood.
