The JV Spartans faced off with the West Bladen Knights on Tuesday night on their home court. The young Spartans gave it all they had, but just couldn’t pull out a win. The final score was 45-66, in the Knights’ favor.

The beginning of the first quarter showed signs of an even match up between the teams, but ended with a West Bladen lead of 19 over Union‘s 7. Union came out aggressive in the second, scoring 15 points to raise their total to 22. However, West Bladen kept pushing forward, and added 15 points of their own, bringing their total to 34.

After halftime, both teams came out with a sense of urgency, and each added 18 points to their scores. The Knights didn’t let up in the fourth, and finished off the game by tacking on another 15 points, which meant a West Bladen victory, 45-66.

Head coach for the Spartans, Bryant Register, said, “First, I want to congratulate West Bladen on a win tonight. I’m proud of our guys, and I thought our effort in the second half was a little bit better. The moral of the story tonight is that we missed a lot of lay-ups and a lot of free throws, which could have made the outcome a little bit different. Those are things we’re going to work on as we get ready for Trask Thursday.”

Leading the scoring for the Spartans were CJ Thornton with 11 points, Carter Spearman with 10 points, Shyquan Brunson with 7 points, and Chris Nash with 7 points.

Union will travel to Trask Thursday night to continue their conference play.
