The Dark Horse varsity swept the Patriots all the way back to Pender, getting 2 conference wins on Tuesday.


Coming out first to play Pender High School at home, the Lady Dark Horses left the game with a grand score of 99-41, giving the Dark Horse fans a win to remember.


Clinton started out with a hot hand, ending the 1st quarter with a score of 36-8. By halftime, the Lady Dark Horses almost doubled that score, 62-21.


After halftime, Clinton stepped up their game some more. Gaining 16 more points, the Horses began to finish off their competition. Entering the fourth quarter the Lady Dark Horses decided they would push their luck and attempt to reach 100 points. One point short, the Horses still ended the night with an outstanding score of 99-41.


“We had a very good game tonight. Defense controlled the game. I’m glad everyone got to play,” stated Clinton head coach Chris Owens.


For stats, leading scores were Mikayla Boykin with 32 points, Zoey Harris with 14 points, Kristen Glasper with 16 points, and Brielle Mitchell with 11 points.


Up next on the court was the varsity men’s team. Clinton also took home a win against Pender with a final score of 82-73.


With tougher competition, the Horses were head to head with Pender. Gaining a one point lead at the very last second, Clinton ended the first quarter with a score of 21-20.


As the game continued, Pender slowly lost their lead throughout the second quarter. Ending the first half with a score of 43-29, Clinton took the lead.


Coming back, Pender picked up their game. Catching up, the third quarter was ended with a score of 66-52. With only one quarter left, Clinton stayed in the lead. Ending the night with a score of 82-73, the Horses kept a healthy lead and took home their first conference win.


“Tonight was a great win for us. It was our first conference game and a good way to start the season. Pender is a very good team, they played hard. James Evans was a great leader tonight! Our guard really stepped up and took control. It was a great team effort. Thanks also to the crowd that came out to support us,” stated Clinton Coach Randy Jordan.


Leading scores for the Dark Horses are Michael Boykin with 16 points, James Evans with 15 points, Jaquan McClean with 13 points, Jalen Banks with 9 points, Thaxter Spruill with 8 points, Josiah Pope, Osharmaine Jones, and Jaalen Best with 6 points, and Kenjuan Morrison with 2 points.


The Dark Horses will travel to East Bladen today (Thursday) for their last conference game before the Christmas break.
