The ladies of Union and Wallace battled it out on the basketball court Friday night in Spartan territory. This was definitely a tight game, and kept spectators on the edge of their seats. It was the Lady Spartans who were victorious, with a final score of 52-50.

Both teams came onto the court intense and determined, and at halftime, headed to the lockerooms with a Wallace lead, 30-24. However, in third, Union inched closer and closer to Wallace, and tacked on 13 points. Wallace and Union went back and forth the entire fourth quarter, both teams giving it everything they had. Wallace maintained a slight lead up until the last minute, when Union tied it up after sinking some shots from the free throw line. Although hustling hard the last few seconds, Wallace fell to the determination of the Lady Spartans. The final score was 52-50.

Head coach for Union, Bryant Register, said, “I can’t say enough how proud I am of our young ladies for the way we hung in, kept fighting, kept playing, and kept battling all night long. We trailed until the fourth quarter, where we finally got over the hump and had the lead. We hit some very big free throws, made some important lay-ups, got some key turnovers, and everybody on our team made a contribution to this game tonight. We’ll enjoy the win now, but have to get back to work Monday to prepare for Clinton.”

Destiny Robinson led the scoring for the Spartans with 10 points. She was assisted by Lauren Preddy with 9 points, Eva Long with 9 points, Faith McKoy with 7 points.

This was the Lady Spartans’ first win in conference this season, giving them a 1-2 record. Union will take on Clinton at UHS Tuesday, January 7th in a conference game.
