Midway hosted Trask in JV boys and varsity girls basketball Friday evening, winning both games.
The JV squad picked up their 12th consecutive win to move to 12-1 on the season with an 84-69 win, while the girls won their second consecutive game by a score of 52-36.
Matthew Creech was pleased with the play of his JV squad, who led by as many as 25 in the third quarter, saying that it was a “sloppy performance down the stretch, but I’m glad we were able to do enough to get the win”.
Leading Midway in scoring was Paris Smith with 20 points. Larry Blanks had 15, Shyhiem Small had 13, Ayden Canady had 10, and Dariuss Perez had 8 points off the bench.
“I thought Larry and Paris really controlled things inside for us tonight at the four and five positions” said Creech. “That was really the difference in the game.”
The Lady Raiders were able to play great defense in their win, and able to get buckets in transition. Amber Poole led the charge for Midway as she had 15 points, 9 assists, and 7 rebounds, a near triple double. Morgan Tew was the leading scorer in the game as she dropped in 17 points to go with her 10 boards and 3 dimes. Briana Butler had 4 points and 9 rebounds, Taylor Faircloth had 8 points, and Ashley Milliken had 4 points and 5 steals.
“I thought we played well. It was total team ball again. When Amber is playing well the entire team feeds off of it so it’s always good when she’s playing at the level she’s been playing at” said Midway’s head coach Jennifer Naylor.
Two stats from the girls’ game that stand out: Midway had just 7 turnovers, and had 16 assists on 21 field goals. It’s tough to beat a team with those type of stats.
Midway is back in action next Friday as they are set to host the Knights of West Bladen.
