Union traveled to Pender Friday in a conference battle that found them falling to the Patriots, 56-42.

“We’re starting to do better things, I think this was our best game of the season” said Union head coach Tim Pope. “We’re starting to realize what we can and can’t do, and one of the things we can’t do is be an up-tempo team. We need to play solid defense, and slow it down offensively” finished Pope.

Pender led 19-10 after the first, then took a 30-14 lead into halftime. Union outscored Pender 16-14 in the third, but it wasn’t nearly enough, as the Patriots would hold on for the win.

Jajuan Newkirk led Union with 11 points, Cullen Cottle had 8, and Brandon Lovette chipped in 6 for the Spartans.

Union falls to 0-5 in conference play and 2-11 overall.
