The Midway Lady Raiders picked up their 4th conference win Friday night with a hard-fought and exciting home victory over West Bladen . The final score was 41-39.
West Bladen led 7-5 after a quarter and 19-18 at intermission. The contest was tied at 27 after 3 periods.
In the final frame, the Lady Knights took a 32-27 on 5 free throws. However, the Lady Raider got baskets from Amber Poole and the score was knotted once again with 2:38 left to play.
Moments later, Brittany Watson nailed a 15 footer to give Midway the lead. Two more free throws by the Lady Knights tied it at 34 at the 2:03 mark.
The Lady Knights then reclaimed the lead but only until a Taylor Faircloth basket tied it with 1:20 remaining.
A Savannah Spell free throw gave the Lady Raiders a 37-36 advantage and with just 37 ticks to go, Watson sank 2 more at the stripe to put Midway up by 3.
West Bladen , however, hustled down court and Courtney Thompson connected for 3 to tie the score at 39 with 10 seconds left.
The Lady Raiders quickly found Faircloth for a basket. As time expired, it appeared the Lady Knights had tied it up, but the West Bladen shooter was whistled for an offensive foul and the game was over.
For Midway, Faircloth led the way with 11 points. Morgan Tew and Amber Poole tallied 9 points each. Brianna Butler added 7. Watson contributed 4, while Spell connected on a free throw.
The Raiders improve to 4-2 in the Four County Conference and 6-8 overall. West Bladen is also 4-2 in conference play. They are 9-4 in all games.
“We played good team ball,” declared Midway coach Jennifer Naylor. “Amber got in foul trouble and we stepped up and Morgan Tew did a good job of leadership.”
The Lady Raiders will entertain Union on Wednesday.
