Midway traveled to East Bladen Friday evening for JV boys and varsity girls basketball. The evening started off well for the Raiders, as the JV squad took a 71-51 victory over the Eagles. The varsity girls lost 67-25 to an undefeated East Bladen sqaud.

The JV Raiders didn’t come out with a lot of energy, and trailed 16-15 after the first quarter. Midway was able to tie the game at 24 at halftime.

Midway started playing better ball in the second half as they had a 9 point lead after 3 quarters, before finally winning by 20.

Shyheim Small led Midway once again with 19 points, Paris Smith had 14, and Larry Blanks chipped in 12.

Coach Matthew Creech of Midway did not like the effort his team displayed in the first half, saying they really “didn’t get up for this game”. The Raiders played more with a sense of urgency in the second half.

The Lady Raiders didn’t make a field goal until halfway through the second quarter en route to their 42 point defeat.

Amber Poole led Midway with 8 points, while Kimberly Sublett added 5.

Midway will play Pender Tuesday.
