Lakewood wins big in track conference finals

Lakewood High School hosted the 2014 Carolina 1A Indoor Track Finals recently and the Leopards took first place in both the boys and girls division.
For the boys, Lakewood scored 177 points, Spring Creek got 2nd place with 67 points, Hobbton came in 3rd place with 55 points, Princeton gained 4th place with 52 points, and Rosewood had 5th place with 35 points.
For the girls, Lakewood scored 117; Rosewood came in 2nd with 82; Princeton was 3rd with 54; Neuse Charter, 52; Spring Creek, 31; Hobbton, 29; and CB Aycock, 8 points.
The Leopard boys placed first in 7 of the 13 events and the Lady Leps brought home 4 first place awards out of 14 events. Hobbton boys had 2 first place finishes.
In the boys 300 meter dash, Leopard Damarius Monroe came in first with a time of 42.38. Teammate Malik Jackson was on his heels with a second place finish of 42.93. Leopard Akili Underwood took 4th place with 45.75. He was followed by 2 Wildcats, Alexander Moulett, with 46.87 and Bryan Parker, 48.56.
In the Varsity girl 300 meter dash, Lakewood’s own, Asia Eason won 1st place with a time of 48.97 seconds. With a time of 50.37, Maliyah Servance won 3rd place for the Leopards. Hobbton’s Chantel Davis, Kimberly Munguia, and Ashley Baker rounded out the 6th, 7th, and 10th place spots.
Hobbton’s Samson Bradsher took first place in the boys’ shot put event with a distance of 43.07. The next closest was Spring Creek with 35.10.5. Leopard Shawarn Jones took 4th place with 31 feet.
In the girls shot put, Spring Creek took first with a 26.07 mark, but the Leopards took the 2nd and 3rd place spot; Shirlene Smith hit the 22.07.5 mark and Amanda Bowden, 22.06.
Lakewood took another first place spot in the boys varsity triple jump, with Jordan Goodman hitting the 36.04 mark. His teammate Seth Nunnery was 2nd with 31.03.5. Spring Creek came in 3rd with 30.10; and Leopard Alex Thompson took the 4th spot with a mark of 27.04.50.
Rosewood took the first place spot in the girls’ triple jump with 28.11. Leopard Asia Eason was just 8 inches off for 2nd place with a mark of 28.03.
Wildcats and Leopards made up the top 4 in the boys 55 meter dash. Bradsher brought home 1st place with a time of 7.04 seconds; Leopard Dillion Kinlock came in 2nd just .05 seconds later at 7.09; Wildcat Johnny Ramos took 3rd with 7.25; and 4th went to Leopard Malik Jackson with a time of 7.29.
For the girl’s 55 meter dash, Lady Leopard Maliyah Servance won 1st place with a time of 7.89 seconds. Teammate Asia Eason came in just 0.9 seconds later to take 2nd with a score of 7.98 seconds.
Another Lakewood first place finish went to Fidel Lopez in the boys 500 meter dash with a time of 1:19. Spring Creek took 2nd place just 0.1 second off the first place finish. Jordan Goodman, also from Lakewood, got 3rd place with a time of 1:21. For Hobbton, Johnny Ramos placed 4th with a time of 1:30 and his teammate Bryan Parker came in at 1:31.
For the varsity girls 500 meter dash, Neuse Charter took 1st with 1:30, but Leopard Jessica Espinoza was only 5 seconds away from first place with a time of 1:35 minutes. Hobbton’s Chenise Davis came in 5th place with a time of 1:55.
Spring Creek took first place in the boys 1000 meter run with a time of 3:11. Wildcat Cesar Castillo took the 3rd spot with a time of 3:38 minutes.
In the girls varsity 1000 meter run,Neuse Charter took first with a time of 3:41. Again, it was a Wildcat that took home 3rd place, as Sarah Price crossed the finish line with a time of 4:11.
Lakewood’s Malik Jackson came in first with a time of 9.25 in the 55 meter hurtles. Teammate Trace Faulk came in second with 9.81; and 4th place went to Leopard Damarius Monroe with 10.35.
In the varsity boys 1600 meter run, Javier Medal from Lakewood landed in 4th place with a time of 6:03 minutes. Princeton took first and second place with a time of 5:20 and 5:20.5.
In the girls varsity 1600 meter run, Neuse Charter crossed first with a time of 6:28. Hobbton’s Elvie Sumner had a 5th place finish with a time of 7:13.
Lakewood dominated the boys and girls high jump competition.
Trace Faulk hit the 5.02 mark; teammate Zakai Washington came in 2nd with 5.0; and 3rd went to Akili Underwood with 4.10.
For the girls it was Leopards Tasheema Carr with a mark of 3.10; and Courtney Mixon, with 3.06.
Once again the Leopards were in the top 3 of the boys long jump with Jordan Goodman at the 18 mark; 2nd, Shawn Andrew, 16.10; and 3rd went to Akili Underwood, 16.03.
In the girls long jump Leopard Maliyah Servance took 1st place a mark of 13.10. Two other Lady Leopards finished out the event with Jessica Espinoza coming in 4th with a mark of 12; and Courtney Mixon in 5th with 10.
For the boys 3200 meter run, Rosewood took first with a time of 11:44. Leopard L.J. Faircloth came in 3rd with a time of 12:25 minutes.
Leopard Jessica Espinoza came in 4th in the girls 3200 meter with a time of 15:29. First place went to Neuse Charter with a time of 14:13.
In team competition, Lakewood came in 1st with a time of 4:10 in the 4x400 relay. Hobbton took 2nd place with 4:20.
for the girls team, Rosewood took first with a time of 5:12, but Hobbton was close behind with a time of 5:25 for 2nd place and Lakewood came in 3rd at 5:35.
Lakewood was 3 seconds off from 1st place with a time of 9:56 minutes for the boys 4x800 meter relay. Princeton took first place. Hobbton came in 4th place with a time of 10:25 minutes.
In the girls varsity 4x800, Rosewood took 1st with a time of 12:47, while Hobbton was next with a time of 13:10. Lakewood took third place with a time of 13:27.
