Sampson Middle’s young Horses rolled by Midway Middle last Thursday 61-11, with the Clinton team playing its best basketball of the season, according to their head coach.
“Our size and speed was the difference in the game,” said coach Ron Davis, tipping his hat to the Dark Horse team. “We played the best basketball of the season so far Thursday night.”
Sampson jumped out to an early — and large — lead and the Horses were able to play great team defense, according to Davis.
At the end of the first quarter, Sampson as up 22-1 and at halftime had improved their lead to 41-1. They led 53-6 after three periods and continued their strong play for the remainder of the game.
“The kids are buying into the program and playing for each other and the school and not for individual rewards,” the coach pointed out in praising his team’s effort.
He also offered kudos to the fans, who he said, helped make a difference in the game as well. “We had a great crowd for the game, and I want to thank everyone for supporting these young men.”
Sampson moves to 6-0 on the season and has remarkable 2 1/2 year winning streak of 30 games.
