Good afternoon,

I hope everyone is having a nice week. Today was Watermelon Day at the General Assembly and I was pleased to have the 2015 Watermelon Queen, Carmen Honeycutt, join us to help distribute the melons. I think many of the legislators enjoyed learning facts about watermelons and agriculture from the Queen. I would also like to thank Sharon Rogers, who is the Watermelon Queen Coordinator, for helping make the day a success. The governor also heard that we had watermelons at the legislature, and he walked over to enjoy the fun. Watermelon Day was a great way to promote North Carolina agriculture at the General Assembly.

Question of the Week

Thank you to all the people who took the time to respond to last week’s question. Hearing everyone’s favorite things to do during the summer reminds me just how much I love Eastern North Carolina. I always enjoy watching the melons come in from the field at the farm in the evenings. I also enjoy getting away to the beach and spending time with my grand kids.

This week, I would like to find out what everyone’s favorite North Carolina agriculture product is? I won’t make you wait till next week to find out mine, since I’m sure everyone can guess it — watermelons!

As always, please do not hesitate to contact me if I can assist you in any way possible.
