A Godwin-area woman is facing multiple counts of identity theft related to alleged credit card fraud.

Marsha Honeycutt, 37, of 12787 Dunn Road, Godwin, was charged with three counts of identity theft. According to the Sampson County Sheriff’s Department, a victim filed a report in June with their credit card company and later discovered they were the victims of fraud.

“An investigation into their finance report revealed several fraudulent accounts had been created using his personal information,” said Lt. Marcus Smith of the Sampson County Sheriff’s Department. “An investigation into the complaint yielded enough information to charge the listed suspect.”

Smith also reported that the Sampson County Sheriff’s Department receives several cases per year regarding fraud and identity theft. He encourages residents to pay close attention to their financial statements and look for any suspicious charges.

“Everyone should guard their personal information closely and only give personal information when absolutely necessary,” Smith said. “Citizens should also get an annual credit report and look for any suspicious credit activity.”

Bond for Honeycutt was set for $60,000. Court date is Aug. 14.
