Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Stephen Tart came to Union Intermediate School on Aug. 27 and spoke with the fifth-grade class.


LCpl Tart talked with students about Marine history, Marine terminology, the process of becoming a Marine, and the leadership and motivational values he has gained from being in the Marine Corps.


He will left Raleigh on Aug. 28 to report to Okinawa, Japan on Sept. 2 to serve two years of duty as a Engineer Equipment Electrical Systems Technician.


Tart is a 2008 graduate of Hobbton High School, a 2012 graduate of North Carolina State University, and a 2013 graduate of the Marine Corp Depot in Parris Island, S.C.


His sister, Marcia Tart, is a first year fifth-grade teacher at Union Intermediate School.
